product description
Nickel is a chemical element; it has the symbol Ni and atomic number 28. It is a silvery-white lustrous metal with a slight golden tint. Nickel is a hard metal susceptible to corrosion by the transition metals. Pure nickel is chemically reactive, but bulk nickel reacts slowly with air under standard conditions because a passivation layer of nickel oxide prevents further corrosion. Even so, pure local nickel is found in small quantities in the Earth's crust, usually in ultramafic rocks, and in the interior of larger nickel-iron meteorites that have not been exposed to oxygen outside the Earth's atmosphere.
